Reality TV : Unreal ethics !

Dadagiri, Rodies, Aja Mahi Ve, Zara Nachke Dikha, Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikhlaja, Sa Ra Ga Ma, Big Boss and the list goes on and on.

Reality shows in India are on a rise day by day, like the population which is rising by the second. Every day we hear of shows being launched and celebrities ranging from singers, models, TV actors, comedians, etc being roped in to participate. We all do like these shows, but fail to understand WHY SO MANY? Is the SAAS-BAHU rona dhona not enough for the Indian masses to digest that we have to put up with the sight of every kid, teenager and adult in India with a microphone in his/her hand? Or have we become so obsessed with whatever westerners do that we will go to any length to copy them, first it was the movies and now television too.

Shows which often categorize themselves as talent shows like Indian Idol, Voice of India, Sa Re Ga Ma, etc, etc, etc, are doing nothing besides preaching REGIONALISM.

I would like to remind everyone that, we are still not a country which can compare them selves to the much advanced nations till we eliminate problems like unemployment and corruption and shows like these do no justice to the common man, but do enrage him/her by constantly reminding them that a particular participant (which them may like or not) is from this or that state thereby sowing the seeds of regionalism and hate.

I have just one question, Are we not a part of a great country called India? Then why does every participant from has to introduced as , “Ab aa rahe hain, Amritsar, Panjab se _____________” or “Please welcome _________ from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh” Are these states like individual entities who have to be called by separate names? To add a cherry on top are the nicknames such as  Lucknow ka Nawab, Punjab da Sher,….!

If not anything else, this has caused problems in the past, which has deeply affected lives of the people who watch these shows, some who participate on it and some who have a loved one performing on the stage.

Some examples are the Riots in Silguri when Prashant Tamang won the Indian Idol title (http://india.suite101.com/article.cfm/indian_idol_and_gorkha_nationalism)

A popular contestant Toshi was attacked by some men, which led to him being hospitalized (http://www.bollywoodblog.com/category/TV/Toshi-attacked-by-a-group-in-Mumbai-co-contestants-being-questioned/)

And the latest incident being the mysterious death of Voice of India winner Ishmeet Singh (http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?sectionName=&id=fd2404a2-182a-426e-92a3-d4167282529e&&Headline=Singer+Ishmeet+Singh’s+family+cries+’murder’&strParent=strParentID)

Many people may find this argument stupid enough to be even posted but when we criticize the kids for watching all shows bad and dirty why don’t the parents themselves switch to a channel which is more family friendly and not full such nonsense.
